Facts About Wabamun Lake
- Wabamun Lake is located 45 minutes West of Edmonton, Alberta, making it the perfect spot for summer beach vacationing or boating.
- Wabamun Lake is one of the most heavily used lakes in Alberta. It is 19.2 km long and 6.6 km narrow, covering 82 km2 and is 11 meters deep at its deepest, with somewhat clear water.
- Wabamun Lake has a reputation for the best whitefish lake in the Edmonton area and is well known for its large northern pike. A large variety of migrating, breeding and moulting wildfowl visit the lake. Beaver and muskrat use the lake while the surrounding upland supports coyotes, porcupine, moose and white-tailed deer.
- Wabamun Lake derives its name from the Cree word for looking glass.
- Wabamun has all essential services including banks, a grocery store, Home Hardware, vehicle repair services, drugstore, bottle depot, carwash, and a laundromat.
Wabumun Lake Public Waterfront Park
The Public Waterfront Park is run by The Village of Wabamun and is NOT affiliated with Wabamun Marina & RV Park. This is a wonderful park for your children to play in, especially on those hot summer days!
- Water Spray Park - The Spray Park features more than 10 pieces of spray equipment. Hours of operation: Monday – Friday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Weekends & Holidays noon – 4:00 p.m.
- Large playground for children
- Family Picnic facility
- Public washrooms with change rooms
Wabumun Lake Public Boat Launch
The Public Boat Launch is run by The Village of Wabamun and is NOT affiliated with Wabamun Marina & RV Park.
- The public launch is open 7 days a week except Friday June 21 - Sunday June 23, 2019 (Dragonfly Festival).
- Beginning May 1 - September 30, parking fees are in effect. Anyone wishing to use the public boat launch is required to pay a $20 fee per day at the center ticket machine.
- Those parking in the single vehicle (no trailers) lot on the east side for day use are only are required to pay a fee of $2.00 per hour OR purchase a $10 day pass. Parking fees can be purchased at the ticket machine at the entrance to the East lot.
- Both ticket machines will accept loonies or toonies, 5, 10 or 20 dollar bills OR Visa or MasterCard.
- Parking lots are Patrolled – Parking offenders will be subject to a minimum $150 fine.
- Overnight parking or boat mooring is not allowed at the public boat launch area.
- Residents of Wabamun can use the boat launch and parking areas in Waterfront Park for FREE if they complete and submit their Permit Application to the Village of Wabamun.
